ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Thompson Gym was just what the Elizabethtown College women's basketball team needed as they dominated Moravian on Saturday in a big 84-46 win to snap a two-game losing streak. The Blue Jays shot 50 percent or better for the third time this season led by
Summer McNulty's 23,
Cyleigh Wilson's 16 and 10 and 8 from
DaniRae Renno.
Wilson hit two of her game-high four threes in the opening three minutes of action as Elizabethtown (15-6, 11-3 Landmark) got out to a 10-0 lead, forcing the Greyhounds into an early timeout. McNulty and
Jessica King added baskets as the Blue Jays were off and running. All five starters contributed to the fast start, capped by Renno's layup underneath on a feed from Wilson.
Allyia Kennedy finished the first quarter with four straight points and Etown led 24-10 after one.
The teams traded buckets to start the second and then after a loose ball ended up in the backcourt for the Jays, Kennedy was left to inbound the ball with just three seconds on the shot clock by her own bench. She located a streaking
Ella Gordon heading toward the Jays' basket and in one motion, threw a perfectly placed pass into Gordon's hands and in two steps in the lane her layup was good to beat the buzzer to put EC up 28-12.
McNulty and
Taylor Huyck combined for a 7-0 run by themselves as the lead grew for Elizabethtown, up to 20, with half the second to go. The Blue Jays hit 50 percent of their shots in the second and ended the half 10-for-10 at the foul line.
Ellie Fasick knocked down two with under a minute left in the half.
Makenna Mummert, Wilson, Kennedy and Huyck each hit a pair at the line for Etown.
Elizabethtown was feeling it from the floor, going 11-for-17 in the third quarter as they outscored Moravian 30-16 to break the game wide open. Wilson hit two more threes, giving her 64 for the season to tie her career-high from last season and one shy of tying the program's single-season record.
Cass Peris and
Lindsay Boyd were in on the third-quarter scoring. Boyd drilled a three from the right wing with 42 seconds left in the third and then Huyck found Boyd down low along the baseline for the easy bucket with 20 seconds remaining. Etown led 73-39 after three.
The Greyhounds' shooting didn't help their cause in the fourth, hitting only three of 10 attempts. Renno, King, Peris, Kennedy and
Jess Pronchick tallied the 11 points in the fourth for Etown.
McNulty, Wilson and Renno combined to shoot 20-for-26 while McNulty and Wilson were 6-for-7 from beyond the arc. Overall, the Blue Jays hit on 31-of-62 shot attempts (50 percent), 7-of-13 threes (53.8 percent) and 15-of-17 free throws (88.2 percent).
The women's basketball team will host Goucher on Wednesday, February 7, at 7 p.m.
