ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.—The Elizabethtown women's lacrosse team fell, 22-18 to visiting Alvernia, Tuesday evening in the team's home opener. The Golden Wolves secured their win as they tallied ten goals in the fourth period.
Megan Gress recorded her 100
th career-point in the game as she had a total of nine. Gress totaled three goals to go with six assists.
Madison Hennelly and
Drew Bridges each added five points.
Alvernia started early with a 2-0 lead after two back-to-back goals within a minute of each other. In the 12th minute, Gress assisted Hennelly on Elizabethtown's first goal. After the Golden Wolves added another goal, the Blue Jays went on a scoring spree tallying the next six in a row to take a 7-3 lead. Alvernia ended the quarter with two more goals to trail by two.
Alvernia flipped the script in the second as they retook the lead going up 10-7. At halftime the score was tied at 10-10 as
Megan Meyer,
Drew Bridges, and Hennelly scored the goals.
Gress and Deiaco opened up the third quarter with a goal each. The Golden Wolves added one before the Blue Jays took a 16-11 lead. Alvernia added one more goal at the four-minute mark to end the quarter. Alvernia gained momentum in the final quarter to take a commanding, 21-16 lead after scoring eight straight. Deiaco recorded another goal with just under four minutes remaining and Bridges tallied the final goal as Etown fell, 22-18 to Alvernia.
Elizabethtown will travel to Wilson this Thursday at 3:30 pm.
