Drew Defeats Blue Jays

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.-- After going into the second tied, 39-39 against visiting Drew Wednesday evening, the Elizabethtown men's basketball fell, 74-80. 

Austin Finarelli and Rance Russo led the game with 20 points each. Russo also grabbed seven rebounds while Finarelli tallied six. Reese Ziegler and EJ Finney each added 13 points. Ziegler grabbed six rebounds and Finney grabbed three steals. 

Drew came out strong with a 10-5 early lead as they sunk two back-to-back 3-pointers. With the help from Russo, Finney and Ziegler the Blue Jays came trailed Drew by one at the 13 minute mark. The Rangers then gained momentum taking on a 10 point lead midway through the first half. Three's from Russo and Ben Stanton then cut Drew's lead to 23-17. Two Etown jumpers brought the team within three points of Drew. With six minutes remaining, Finarelli sunk a three to tie up the game at 26-26. Drew swiftly retook the lead before Finarelli again tied up the game with just over four minutes remaining. Through the end of the half, neither team could gain more than a two-point as the Rangers and Blue Jays went into halftime tied at 39-39. 

Elizabethtown struggled to get going in the second half as Drew jumped out a 12-point lead, six minutes into the half. Russo broke the Blue Jays silence in the 14th minute as he sunk a three. Drew then went on a 6-0 run taking a 57-42 lead over Etown. Finarelli added a layup and a 3-pointer to cut Drew's lead with nine minutes remaining. Drew kept pushing forward and holding onto more than a 10-point lead. Finarelli made a layup followed by a Ziegler three as Elizabethtown continued to trail, 66-55. Two Blue Jay layup brought Drew's lead down to nine points with over a minute left in the game. Through the end of the half the two teams traded free-throws with Drew coming out on top, 80-74. 

Elizabethtown will travel to Scranton this Saturday, February 17 at 2PM.
