Blue Jays Battle Wilkes in Overtime Win on Senior Day

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.-- After two tied halves, the Elizabethtown men's basketball team defeated Wilkes, 85-82 in overtime, Saturday on senior day. The team honored five seniors, Tyreke Herbert, Dylan Rowe, Nick Rappa, Niko Georgelis, and Ryan Szatkowski

Austin Finarelli led the team with a career-high 28 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. Rance Russo recorded a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds while Rowe also tallied 12 points along with four blocks. Georgelis recorded 11 points and eight rebounds while Herbert added 10. 

Throughout the game there were 18 lead changes along with the score tied up 17 times. The Blue Jays shot .448 from the floor while holding Wilkes to .385. 

Elizabethtown came out in the first half with a 6-2 lead over Wilkes. Wilkes then shortly took over at 9-6, four minutes into the half. After back and forth, the Colonels pulled ahead by six points after three straight layups. Led by Finarelli, Etown gained momentum to take over the lead, 23-21. EJ Finney and Rowe each added a layup to keep the Blue Jays in the lead. The Colonels again took the lead before Finarelli sunk a three followed by two Blue Jay layups to end the first half tied, 36-36. 

Wilkes started off the second half with a five-point lead until layups from Rowe and Russo brought Elizabethtown within one. Throughout the half neither team could gain more than a two-point lead until the Blue Jays made four straight buckets to extend their lead by five as Russo sunk a 3-pointer at the end of the run. With five minutes remaining, Georgelis added three to keep the Blue Jays lead up by five points. After a Wilkes three, Finarelli made one of his own to bring the score to 66-63. In the final three minutes the two teams traded buckets as the Colonels dropped in a three with six seconds remaining to force overtime. 

Wilkes started off the overtime period making two free-throws before Rowe and Russo contributed points to bring Etown's lead out to 80-77. A Russo free-throws and a Finarelli jumper ended the period with Elizabethtown out on top, 85-82. 

Elizabethtown will host one more regular season game this Wednesday, February 14 at 7PM against Drew.
