Ohio Wesleyan Pulls Away in Second Half to Defeat Blue Jays in Yonnie Kauffman Tournament

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.—The Elizabethtown College women's basketball team went toe-to-toe with receiving votes Ohio Wesleyan through the first half, but the Battling Bishops would pull away in the third to defeat Etown, 72-58. Summer McNulty was named to the Yonnie Kauffman Blue Jay All-Tournament team.

McNulty led the team with 16 points while Makenna Mummert came off the bench to contribute 14 points while going 6-8 in field goals. DaniRae Renno totaled 10 points while grabbing six rebounds and three blocks.

Elizabethtown (1-1) had the lead in the first quarter, opening the second with a 17-15 lead over Ohio Wesleyan. The Battling Bishops went on an early run in the second quarter to take over the lead, 26-17 with four minutes remaining in the quarter. Three good layups from Renno brought the Blue Jays back within five points of OWU. Etown finished up the second with a nine-point run to tie up the game 28-28 going into halftime.

Etown hung around till midway through the third quarter as Ohio Wesleyan began to pull away. Mummert and Jess King added baskets down the stretch to keep the Jays within seven of OWU. Coming out of the third quarter, Etown trailed Ohio Wesleyan, 52-45.

The Battling Bishops opened the fourth making two straight layups which extended their lead by 11 points. In the next four minutes, OWU continued to extend their lead as they led 64-47. Ella Gordon sunk two threes to try to get back Etown's momentum, but it wasn't enough as Ohio Wesleyan won, 72-58.

Elizabethtown will hit the road Saturday, November 16 at 2 pm to face Dickinson.
