ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.—For the second season in a row the Elizabethtown women's volleyball team defeated Drew, 3-1 inside Thompson Gymnasium in the Landmark Conference Quarterfinals.
Gracie Britten led the team with 12 kills while hitting .440, she also grabbed six digs and four blocks.
Emma Bitner recorded a double-double of 20 assists and 15 digs.
Lucy Stanek also recorded a double-double of 10 kills and 15 digs. The team totaled 10 service aces and a team season-high 12 total blocks.
Elizabethtown struggled in set one to find a good rhythm as Drew recorded six of their seven total aces in the first set. The Rangers went up 12-3 early after two kills sandwiched two aces. Drew kept up their momentum and a ten-point lead after another ace the Rangers led, 17-6. Etown came back within six after going on a 5-1 run. Etown couldn't close the gap enough as they fell, 25-16 in set one.
From there it was all Etown as the Blue Jays won 25-19, 25-20, and 25-21 in the following sets. The Blue Jays started off with the lead at 10-6 following Drew errors. A kill from
Savannah Lesley and blocks from Britten and
Alexa Adamek put the Blue Jays up, 13-9. Etown added three in a row before earning another three straight, extending their lead to 20-14. Stanek,
Sophie Savick,
Ida Fisher, and
Leah Gormley got the final points for the Blue Jays to give them the 25-19 win.
Set three started close until Elizabethtown rattled off six straight to lead, 10-6. After trading points in a close set the Blue Jays pulled away by three points after a Savick kill and Britten block. Drew tied things up at 16-16 and from there Etown was able to get the win as
Kate Barbon and Stanek earned the final kills to win, 25-20.
To start set four the two teams traded points before Elizabethtown was able to pull away, taking an 11-8 lead. Fisher and Stanek kills sandwiched a Britten ace to extend Etown's lead to 18-12. Drew was able to come back within two of the Blue Jays but two final Drew errors would seal Etown's 25-21 win.
Elizabethtown will travel to Scranton this Thursday, November 14 at 7 pm for the Landmark Semifinals.
