Blue Jays Season Comes to Close in Landmark Semifinal

SCRANTON, Pa.—The Elizabethtown College women's volleyball team's season came to a close this evening as Scranton swept the Blue Jays in the Landmark Conference Semifinals.

The Blue Jays end their season with an 18-13 overall record after reaching the semifinals for the fifth straight season.

Lucy Stern picked up nine digs to surpass 500 digs on the season while Gracie Britten tallied seven kills to surpass 500 kills on her career. Lucy Stanek totaled seven kills and seven digs while Emma Bitner recorded 11 assists.

Elizabethtown struggled through the first set falling, 25-10 to slowly would gain momentum as the match went on. Elizabethtown dropped sets two and three, 25-14, 25-22. Scranton came out in the first set firing on all cylinders as they went up 12-4 after tallying six straight. The Royals kept rolling as they extended their lead by ten. Etown couldn't recover and ultimately fell, 25-10.

Britten smacked down the first kill of the set before Scranton went up 7-2 early in set two. A Stanek kill cut the Royals lead in half to 8-4. Scranton rattled off six straight before extending their lead to 19-6. Etown would come back within ten with the help from Kate Barbon, Britten, and Stanek. One final kill for the Royals ended set two, 25-14.

To start off set three the two teams traded points before Scranton rattled off eight in a row, taking a 13-7 lead. A Britten kill followed by two Scranton errors brought Etown within three at 15-12. Stanek kills kept the Jays just trailing by three points. A few Royal errors allowed Etown to come within two towards the end of the set. Britten and Stanek brought the score to 23-22 with the Royals still leading. Scranton grabbed the final two points securing the 25-22 win.
