WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Elizabethtown women's volleyball dropped just their third Landmark Conference match of the season as they fell 3-1 to Catholic.
Savannah Lesley led the team in kills with eight and six digs.
Lucy Stanek and
Kate Barbon each totaled seven kills.
Emma Bitner grabbed another double-double as she tallied 15 assists and 13 digs.
Lucy Stern grabbed 18 digs and
Emma Rizzutto and Stanek totaled 16 digs.
After winning the first set 25-23 the Blue Jays struggled throughout falling, 17-25, 15-25, 19-25. To begin set one Elizabethtown and the Cardinals traded points and after three straight Etown led, 7-4. Barbon and Stanek each smacked down a kill keeping the Blue Jays ahead by four. The Cardinals then tallied three in a row coming within one of the Blue Jays. From that point on, Catholic kept it close but Etown came out on top 25-23.
After dropping set one, Catholic gained momentum sprinting to an early 9-2 lead. Two Cardinal errors brought Elizabethtown within five points of Catholic. Catholic then rattled off six straight before Etown would tally four straight with the help from Lesley and
Ida Fisher. Catholic was just shy of set point as they led 21-9 after four points in a row. Barbon and Lucy would help the Jays go on a run at the end but it wasn't enough as Catholic won, 25-17.
Catholic again was out to a hot start in the next set as they started off with a 10-3 lead. A kill from
Leah Gormley and Lesley cut the Cardinals lead in half. The two teams traded points for a while but it wasn't enough for Elizabethtown as the Cardinals tallied the final three points to win, 25-15.
The Cardinals continued their streak of leading to start at set as they jumped out to an 11-3 lead. Three Cardinal errors cut the lead in half at 6-11. Catholic then pulled ahead by ten and continued to lead by that much until the Blue Jays rattled off six in a row. Elizabethtown just trailed 20-18 after their run but again Catholic would tally the final three points in a row to win, 25-19.
Etown is back at it tomorrow as they travel to Goucher at 1 pm.
