WILKES-BARRE, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College men's basketball team couldn't dig itself out of a halftime hole and fell on the road at Wilkes Saturday afternoon, 83-62.
EJ Finney had a team-high 15 points for the Blue Jays.
Wilkes (11-2, 4-2 Landmark) used the three-ball to its advantage in the first half, hitting on six attempts to just one for the Blue Jays. The Colonels also shot 50 percent from the floor.
Layups from Finney and
Dylan Rowe kept Elizabethtown (4-9, 1-5 Landmark) within five, but the Jays were held scoreless for over five minutes of game time until Rowe connected down low again to break the streak. Wilkes had built a 17-point lead by that point until
Rance Russo found the senior for the basket. The Colonels went into the locker room ahead 45-29.
Finney's bucket at the basket early in the second half got Etown within 14, but that's as close as they would get. Wilkes would continue to hit from deep, sinking five more threes in the second half as they maintained around a 20-point lead over the rest of the half.
Finney finished a rebound shy of a double-double, ending Saturday's road affair with 15 points and 9 boards. Rowe and Russo each had 14 points apiece for Elizabethtown.
The men's basketball team will host Goucher on Wednesday, January 10, at 7 p.m.
