Eagles Clip Blue Jays in Overtime

HUNTINGDON, Pa.—The Elizabethtown men's basketball team outscored Juniata 38-34 in the second half Wednesday evening to force overtime but it wasn't enough as the Blue Jays fell, 86-82.

Niko Georgelis led the team off the bench with a career-high 18 points while EJ Finney also totaled a career-high of 16 points, four rebounds, and three steals. Rance Russo tallied 15 points and six rebounds and Alon Gorham added 12 points and four assists.

Elizabethtown started off the first half with a 5-0 lead after two Etown layups. A 3-pointer from Juniata tied up the game at 9-9 before the Blue Jays retook the lead after points from Georgelis and Tyreke Herbert. Both teams kept it tight before Georgelis sunk a three with just over five minutes remaining in the half. Layups from Dylan Rowe and Gorham along with Russo free throws ended the half with the Eagles leading, 35-31.

Austin Finarelli made the first bucket of the second half after dropping in a 3-pointer. With the help from Russo, Finney, and Finarelli Etown gained the lead at 40-37. After an Eagle layup and jumper, Russo added a three to tie up the game 43-43. Both teams traded points down the stretch with neither able to get more than a three-point lead. Finney made two consecutive layups with 4:32 remaining bringing Etown in the lead, 62-60. Russo made a three followed by a layup from Gorham to extend Etown's lead by five. Georgelis added a layup to keep the Blue Jays leading, 69-64 but a layup and a three by the Eagles forced overtime.

Juniata made two 3-pointers which sandwiched two 3-pointers from Georgelis as the Eagles led, 77-75 at the three-minute mark. Russo dropped in a three to regain Etown's lead followed by another Juniata three. Juniata ended the overtime period making four free throws to win, 86-82.

Elizabethtown went 13-17 (.765) in free throws vs. Juniata who went 13-18 (.722).

Elizabethtown will travel to Susquehanna this Saturday, January 27th at 2:00 pm.
