Blue Jays keep rolling, blow out Drew

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College women's basketball team kept their unbeaten streak to start 2024 going as they blew out Drew at home Wednesday evening, 81-41. Jessica King led all scorers with 15 points as Etown had four in double figures in the win.

Drew (5-11, 3-6 Landmark) was able to keep it close through 10 minutes as they started out hot from the floor, hitting 6-of-11 in the first and only trailing 19-14 going into the second. That's where Elizabethtown (12-4, 8-1 Landmark) was able to take over the game. The Jays shot 50 percent from the floor and were 10-for-11 at the foul line as they outscored the Rangers 23-9.

Etown limited turnovers while turning over Drew 11 times in the first half and only allowing one offensive rebound to the Rangers. King and Cyleigh Wilson each were in double digits by the half. King had 11 and Wilson added 10 and another pair of threes after his school-record performance on Sunday.

Elizabethtown's third-quarter defense was stifling as Drew only managed two makes on 13 attempts. Lindsay Boyd and Ella Gordon each added a pair of second-half treys off the bench. Boyd was one of the four in double figures with 12 on 5-for-7 from the field and 2-for-3 from three. Gordon added three assists to her stat line on the night.

The Jays dominated down low once again, outscoring Drew 34-16 in the paint while drawing 21 foul calls and getting to the line 28 times. EC finished the evening 23-for-28 (82.1 percent) from the charity stripe to help the cause.

Summer McNulty posted 12 points on an efficient 4-for-6 shooting and 4-for-4 at the free throw line. King hit all five of her foul shots and DaniRae Renno led the team with nine boards. Allyia Kennedy, Makenna Mummert, Cass Peris and Katie Haefner each contributed to the free throw totals for the Blue Jays as 11 players registered at least a point in the game.

Elizabethtown will host Lycoming on Saturday, January 20, at 4 p.m.
