ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.—Six Elizabethtown men's basketball players tallied double-digits in the 88-82 win over Drew, Wednesday evening in Landmark Conference play.
Ben Stanton led the team with a career-high of 19 points and four assists.
Alon Gorham totaled 14 points while
Austin Finarelli tallied 13 points.
Reese Ziegler added 11 points while
Dylan Rowe and
Rance Russo totaled ten points.
Drew started off the first half with a 3-pointer and then Etown went on an 8-0 run to start their scoring with points from Rowe, Finarelli, and
EJ Finney. The Rangers came within a basket, five minutes into the half before a Russo layup gave the Blue Jays back the lead. In the next couple of minutes, Drew pulled ahead by ten points as they led, 23-13. Gorham and Stanton contributed the next several buckets following a Stanton three with 4:30 remaining in the first half. A minute later, Stanton sunk another three to tie up the game, 29-29. The two teams kept things tight through the end of the half as
Finarelli made a final layup as the Blue Jays trailed, 39-35 going into halftime.
Ziegler sunk a 3-pointer to start off the second half for Etown followed by a Rowe layup to take the 40-39 lead. The Rangers retook the lead after three consecutive layups. Layups from
Niko Georgelis and Finarelli along with a three from Ziegler, Elizabethtown was back out in front, 53-49. Midway through the second half, Etown continued to lead after a layup from Rowe. For the next several minutes the teams traded points with three tied scores until the Blue Jays pulled away by six points with just under four minutes remaining. In the final 1:30 minutes, Etown went 8-8 in free throws to defeat Drew, 88-82.
Elizabethtown moves to 6-10 on the season and 3-10 in the Landmark while Drew falls to 13-3 and 6-3 in the Conference.
The Blue Jays return home this Saturday, January 20
th at 2PM to host Lycoming.
