Stephan, Troutman, Bridges tally as field hockey defeats Drew

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College field hockey team got its second conference win in three games as they defeated Drew on Saturday, 3-2. The Blue Jays had three different goal scorers in the game.

It was a quick start for Elizabethtown (5-4, 2-1 Landmark) as Riley Stephan scored on the rebound. Olyvia Jackson was unable to corral the ball, which went to Stephan's stick as she gave the Jays an early 1-0 lead.

Drew (4-6, 1-2 Landmark) responded early in the second quarter with a goal of their own to tie the game at 1-1.

The Blue Jays kept their offensive pressure up as they outshot the Rangers 10-2 in the second. One of those shots found the back of the cage as Etown worked the corner play to success. Chloe Smith dished over to Rachel Troutman and the sophomore recorded her first career goal to give EC the lead back at 2-1.

The Rangers would equalize late in the second to send the game tied at 2-2 into halftime.

While the third quarter didn't provide the same type of offensive output as they other quarters, Elizabethtown did get a goal and it turned out to be the game-winner. This time, it was Drew Bridges scoring with a little over five minutes left in the third to give Etown a 3-2 lead.

Drew did have a chance in the fourth on a counter, but Angelina Giglio-Tos made the pad save to keep the ball out and the Jays were able to run the clock down late to earn the Landmark win at Wolf Field.

Giglio-Tos had two saves in the game while Drew goalie Olyvia Jackson made 12 stops.

Elizabethtown will host Susquehanna on Saturday, October 7, at 1 p.m.
