Blue Jays Drop Two at F&M Invitational

LANCASTER, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown women's volleyball team closed out their weekend in the Franklin & Marshall Invitational.

ELIZABETHTOWN 3, CARNEGIE MELLON 0

The Blue Jays started out the day against Carnegie Mellon who is receiving votes in the latest NCAA DIII AVCA Poll. The Tartans jumped out to a 18-5 lead in set one. A kill from Katie Scaggs brought the score to 8-22, Tartans. Carnegie Mellon ended the set with a 25-9 win. 

Set two started out with Etown and Carnegie Mellon trading points. The Tartans then pulled ahead with a four point run to lead, 10-5. Kate Bardon smacked down a kill to make the score, 7-11. A service ace from Georgianna Kahley brought the Jays within two. After some more back and forth the Tartans continued to hold the lead. Two kills from Jena Minnick closed out the set with Carnegie Mellon coming out on top, 25-23.

Carnegie Mellon  pulled out to a 7-5 lead in set three. Following an ace from Emma Bitner and a kill from Katie Scaggs, the Jays trailed by one. The two teams traded points until the Tartan extended their lead by eight points. Scaggs dropped in another kill before CMU tallied the final three points to win, 25-18. 

Kahley tallied four kills and three service aces. Minnick recorded nine assists while Bitner recorded five. Bitner and Scaggs also totaled five digs. 

FRANKLIN & MARSHALL 3, ELIZABETHTOWN 0 

In the Blue Jays second match of the day against host Franklin & Marshall, the Diplomats came out with a 6-1 lead in set one. Karlee Ray gave Etown the lead with a kill at 8-7. F&M went on a 5-0 run to take the lead, 13-9. A kill from Savannah Lesley kept the Blue Jays close at 14-16. After trading points F&M grabbed the final three points to win, 25-17. 

Set two saw the Jays and Diplomats trade points. Etown came out to an 8-6 lead following three F&M errors. Two straight aces from Kambrie Hepler gave Etown a 13-10 lead. Gracie Britten put down a kill to keep Etown in front by two. The two teams went back and forth to end the set but Franklin & Marshall came out victorious to win, 25-23. 

In the third set, Elizabethtown led, 10-7 after Kahley put down a kill. Etown held their lead through, 14-10 after two Diplomat errors. After four points in a row, F&M lead by one at 17-16. Franklin & Marshall went on a 7-1 run to end the set as they won, 25-19. 

Kahley led the team with seven kills and five digs. Hepler tallied 14 digs and three service aces.
