ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.-- For the second time this week, the Elizabethtown women's volleyball team picked up a win at home. The Blue Jays swept, Penn St.-Altoona, 3-0 Thursday evening.
The start of the first set was tight as Elizabethtown trailed, 6-5 following a kill from
Karlee Ray. Etown took over the lead after five straight points. A
Georgianna Kahley kill and a
Kambrie Hepler ace brought the score to 18-14, Jays. The two teams traded points through the end of the set with Etown coming out on top, 25-20.
Savannah Lesley and
Katie Scaggs closed out the set with kills.
Set two started similar to set one, Penn St.-Altoona led, 5-3 before Etown tallied three straight kills to take a 7-5 lead. The Lions re-took the lead before the Blue Jays gained momentum as they went, 6-1 to lead, 14-11. Kahley, Lesley, and
Kate Barbon contributed kills on the run. Another Lesley kill followed by two Lion attack errors kept the Jays in front by four. Two Etown attack errors brought the Lions within one of the Blue Jays. In a close matchup, the set was tied at 25-25. Elizabethtown recorded the final three points in a row to win, 29-27. Ray ended the set with a service ace.
In set three, Etown jumped out to a 10-3 lead after rattling off nine straight points. A kill from Scaggs and Ray extended the Blue Jays lead to, 11-5. Etown held a substantial lead through, 20-13 after a Penn St.-Altoona kill. Another Ray kill, brought the Jays lead to ten. The Lions tallied three straight points before
Campbelle Dayley recorded the final kill of the match to win, 25-17.
Ray recorded a career-high ten kills while Scaggs led the team with 11 kills, three block assists and one solo block. Hepler tallied 21 digs and
Jena Minnick recorded a season-high 22 assists.
The Blue Jays hit the road for a tri-match hosted by Dickinson this Saturday, September 16 starting at 12 PM.
