Perilli's Homerun Lifts Blue Jays to Win over Riverhawks in 13 Innings

SELINSGROVE, Pa.— The Elizabethtown baseball team closed out the regular season in thrilling fashion as it took 13 innings before Quinten Perilli scored the winning run with his 11th homerun of the season. The Blue Jays defeated Susquehanna, 6-5.

Etown earns their 30th win of the season as they move to 30-9 and 16-2 in the Landmark. Susquehanna falls to 21-17 and 8-9 in the Landmark.

Elizabethtown continued their usual ways in scoring first, as the Blue Jays scored two in the top of the first. Ben Watson led off the inning with a single to second and advanced on a wild pitch. Quinten Perilli smacked a two-run homer to left field.  In the bottom half of the inning, Susquehanna put up three runs, taking a 3-2 lead.  The Riverhawks added another run in the second to extend their lead, 4-2. The third through sixth innings were scoreless before Etown scored three to take the lead, 5-4.

In the seventh, Watson singled, advanced on a passed ball, and then advanced to third on a Riverhawk error. Robbie Bertucio hit the Blue Jays second homerun of the day for three RBIs. Susquehanna tied the game, 5-5 in the eighth. Neither team was able to score in the ninth, which then forced extra innings.

It wasn't until the 13th inning that a run was scored. Perilli led off the top half with his second homerun of the day which would end up being the game-winning run for Etown.

Perilli went 3-5 with two runs, three RBIs, and two homeruns. Watson went 4-7 with two runs.

Elizabethtown will compete in the Landmark Conference Championship starting May 12th, hosted by Scranton.
