Eight Run Inning Rolls Riverhawks Past Blue Jays in Landmark Championship Game One

SCRANTON, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown College baseball team dropped the first game of the Landmark Conference Championship tournament to Susquehanna, 12-3 as the Riverhawks scored eight runs in fourth sealing their win. 

With the loss the Blue Jays fall to 30-10 on the season while the Riverhawks improve to 23-17. 

Elizabethtown started off the game scoring first as they have done through the majority of the season. In the bottom of the first Ben Watson led off the inning with a single to left center. David Woolley then singled through the right side, advancing Watson. Quinten Perilli singled up the middle to load the bases. James Vito and AJ Bednar were both plated via a walk, scoring Watson and Woolley. After the first inning, Etown led Susquehanna, 2-0. Susquehanna cut the Blue Jays lead, 2-1 in the top of the third as they scored on a single. 

Susquehanna got rolling in the fourth scoring eight runs on six hits to take a 9-2 lead over Elizabethtown. The Riverhawks tacked on another run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly. Etown scored their final run in the bottom of the seventh. Perilli doubled down the left field line and was brought home on Tyler McGonigle's triple to center field. In the top of the eighth, Susquehanna added two more runs extending their lead to 12-3. 

Greg Zerbe records his first loss of the season as he moves to 6-1 on the mound after striking out three. 

McGonigle went 2-5 with a RBI and a triple. Watson went 2-4 with one run and a double. Woolley went 2-5 with one run. 

Elizabethtown will face the loser of the Catholic/Scranton game this evening. The Blue Jays will play at 11AM tomorrow.
