Susquehanna Ends Blue Jays Landmark Championship Run

SCRANTON, Pa.—The Elizabethtown College baseball team kept their Landmark Conference Championship dreams alive this morning as they knocked out Catholic, 6-3 before Susquehanna defeated the Blue Jays to eliminate them, 6-4.

The Blue Jays fall to 31-10 on the season which are their most wins in a season since the team went 33-11 in 1994.
Etown will find out Monday, May 15 at 12PM if they will earn a bid to the NCAA Tournament.

GAME 1: ELIZABETHTOWN 6, CATHOLIC 3

The Elizabethtown Blue Jays stayed alive for another game as they defeated Catholic, 6-3 to eliminate them from the Landmark Conference Championship Tournament. Catholic scored first in third off a sacrifice fly. Etown answered back in the bottom half of the inning. Ben Watson doubled down the left field line and advanced on a single bunt by David Woolley. Watson scored off of Robbie Bertucio's sacrifice fly. The Cardinals added another run in the fifth to take a 2-1 lead.

Etown again responded in the bottom half of the inning to lock it up at 2-2. Watson again led off the inning with a single and advanced on a single bunt. Watson then advanced on a ground out to third and scored on a sacrifice fly. The Blue Jays got it going in the sixth scoring three runs on three hits to take a 5-2 lead over Catholic.

Elizabethtown tacked on another run in the seventh as James Vito got to first after being hit by a pitch. Vito then advanced to third after two ground outs. Garrett Schwartzbeck singled to right field to bring home Vito. Catholic knocked a solo homerun in the eighth to cut the Blue Jays lead to 6-3. The final inning was scoreless as Etown won, 6-3.

GAME 2: ELIZABETHTOWN 2, SUSQUEHANNA 4

In a defensive battle, Susquehanna came out victorious over Elizabethtown in extra innings as the Blue Jays fell, 4-2. The two met just a week ago in the regular season finale that went to 13 innings in which Etown was the victor.

Elizabethtown scored their lone two runs of the game in the first. Watson led off the inning, plated via a walk and advanced on Woolley's bunt single down the right field line. The two then advanced on a passed ball. Bertucio hit a RBI single through the left side to bring in Watson. On a ground out to second, Woolley scored. Susquehanna plated their first run in the top of the second on a ground out.
The Riverhawks tied the game at 2-2 with a solo homerun in the top of fourth.

The fifth through ninth innings were scoreless which forced an extra inning. In the top of the seventh with a Riverhawk on third, the next Susquehanna batter flew into a double play. Mason Woolwine made the catch from left field and made the throw all the way to the catcher, Joe Limongelli for the out a home. Susquehanna was successful in the top of the 10th, scoring two runs to take a 4-2 lead.  The Blue Jays couldn't hang on and were unsuccessful plating runs in the bottom half to fall, 4-2.
