Blue Jays Drop Two to Scranton

SCRANTON, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown baseball team dropped their first two Landmark Conference games of the season to Scranton, 9-6, 12-11, Saturday. 

GAME 1: SCRANTON 9, ELIZABETHTOWN 6
Elizabethtown got on the board first against Scranton in the first. Robbie Bertucio singled and scored on Quinten Perilli's double down the left field line. Scranton put up two runs in the bottom of the first, to take a 2-1 lead. Three Blue Jay singles and a sacrifice fly added two more runs in the second. Etown extended their lead, 4-1 in the third. Perilli and Eamon McCoubrey singled to get on base. On a sacrifice fly to center field, Perilli ran home.

In the bottom of the third, the Royals added a run before having a dominate fourth inning scoring five runs on three hits. Scranton led 9-5 after five innings. In the ninth, Elizabethtown made an effort to comeback but fell short scoring just one run in the final inning. Bertucio was plated after he was hit by a pitch and then advanced on Perilli's double to left center. On a ground out to shortstop, Bertucio scored the Blue Jays sixth run to fall short, 9-6.  

GAME 2: SCRANTON 12, ELIZABETHTOWN 11

Game two saw Elizabethtown come out to a 2-0 lead in the second. Perilli led off the inning with a single and advanced on a fielder's choice. Chance Montgomery hit a RBI single to second to score Perilli. Tyler McGonigle scored the Blue Jays second run after being plated to first on a throwing error. In the third Etown extended their lead to 5-0 after Bertucio and McGonigle hit in RBIs.

Scranton got on the board in the third, scoring two as Etown led, 5-2. In the fifth, Elizabethtown added another run to take a 7-2 lead. Perilli got on base via a hit by pitch then advanced on a walk. AJ Bednar doubled down the left field line to score Perilli. On a fielder's choice the Blue Jays brought home McGonigle. The Royals turned around in the bottom of the fifth to plate four runners as they came within one of the Blue Jays at 7-6. Scranton tacked on two more runs in the sixth to take the lead.

In the seventh Elizabethtown tied up the game, 8-8 after McGonigle was walked home on a loaded bases situation. Scranton again responded in the bottom half of the seventh scoring one to take the lead. Etown again tied up the game 8-8 after Perilli hit a RBI single to shortstop. Scranton gained momentum in the eighth as they scored three runs on one hit. Etown brought it back in top of the ninth scoring two runs on two hits but it wasn't enough as they fell, 11-12 to Scranton.

The Blue Jays close out the series tomorrow starting at 12PM at Scranton.
