ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown baseball team moved to 22-7 on the season, tying their wins from last season as the Blue Jays defeated Alvernia, 4-2.
The Blue Jays pitching once again proved strong for Etown as the four pitchers tallied ten totaled strikeouts with two Blue Jays recording career-highs.
Justin Marraccini picked up his second career-win on the mound, with a career-high five strikeouts. Garrett Schwartback picked up his first career-save, with a career-high three strikeouts.
Alvernia was on the board first with a RBI double to left field. Elizabethtown quickly tied up the score, 1-1 in the bottom half of the first.
Ben Watson led off for the Blue Jays with a triple to center field. On a
David Woolley ground out, Watson scored. The Blue Jays got back at it in the third, scoring two runs on two hits. Schwartzbeck led off the inning with a single to left center. Watson smacked his second triple of the day through the right side to bring home Schwartzbeck. Woolley grounded out for his second RBI of the day to score Watson.
After a scoreless next few innings, the Golden Wolves score their final run of the game off a double to right center. Etown hit in an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh as
Robbie Bertucio singled through the left side for a RBI. The final two innings were scoreless as Schwartzbeck was able to record three strikeouts to earn the save.
Watson went 2-3 with two runs scored, one RBI, and two triples. Schwartzbeck went 2-2 with two runs scored.
The Blue Jays return home tomorrow to face Lebanon Valley at 3:30 pm.
