FORT PIERCE, Fla.-- The Elizabethtown College baseball team picked up two more wins as they near the end of their spring break trip this afternoon. The Blue Jays breezed past Northwestern (MN), 16-3 before edging Gettysburg, 10-7.
Game 1 vs. Northwestern (MN): W, 16-3
In game one of the day, the Elizabethown Blue Jays blew past the Northwestern (MN) Eagles, 16-3. In the second and fifth innings, Etown scored six and five runs, respectively. In the second,
Eamon McCoubrey singled to right center for a RBI for the Blue Jays first run of the game.
Garrett Schwartzbeck singled to second bringing in two runs.
Tyler McGonigle reached first on an error by the shortstop, as
Justin Wetzel ran home. Elizabethtown led, 4-0 with one out. On a sacrifice fly out to right field, Schwartzbeck scored.
Robbie Bertucio doubled through the left side for a RBI.
The two teams would got three-and-out until the bottom of the fourth when the Blue Jays would add three more runs.
Ben Watson doubled and advanced to third on the throw which brought two runs across home plate. A ground out to the shortstop allowed Watson to score.
The fifth was scoreless before Elizabethtown gained momentum again, scoring five runs in the sixth.
David Woolley,
Quinten Perilli, and McCoubrey recorded RBIs for the Blue Jays, extending Etown's lead, 14-0. In the seventh, the Eagles scored two runs on a single to right field. Northwestern scored their final run in the eighth on a single to second base.
In the bottom of the eighth, Elizabethtown scored their final two runs.
Joe Limongelli singled to left field, then advanced on a Woolley walk. Limongelli advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a RBI single to second base.
RJ Agriss singled to left center to bring home Woolley.
Game 2 vs. Gettysburg: 10-7
Gettysburg struck first scoring three runs in the first and a fourth in the second to lead, 4-0. Elizabethtown cut the Bullets lead, 4-2 after scoring two runs on sacrifice fly's. Gettysburg scored another run in the third before Etown tied up the game, 5-5 in the fourth. Schwartzbeck recorded a RBI and Woolley recorded two RBI's in the inning. Schwartzbeck singled to left field to bring in a run.
Robbie Bertucio then singled to the pitcher to bring the Blue Jays seventh run across home plate.
Elizabethtown's lead grew in the sixth as they added two more runs.
Quinten Perilli doubled to left field and then advanced on a wild pitch.
Justin Wetzel singled to left field to bring home Perilli.
Chance Montgomery got on first after being hit by a pitch then scored later on a wild pitch. Gettysburg came within four in the bottom of the sixth, before Etown scored their final run on a double to left field in the seventh. Gettysburg scored their final run in the eighth on a walk but it wasn't enough as Etown won, 10-7.
The Blue Jays end their week in Florida tomorrow, March 10 at 10 AM as they face Thiel
