ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown men's volleyball team picked up two win inside Thompson Gymnasium on Saturday. The Blue Jays defeated Roanoke, 3-0 in CVC play before defeating St. Vincent, 3-1 in non-conference play.
Game 1 vs. Roanoke: W, 3-0
In the first match of the day Elizabethtown won, 28-26, 25-19, 25-20 against Roanoke. The Maroons started out set one in front with an 8-2 lead. After trading points, Roanoke held a steady lead following an Etown attack error. The Blue Jays then picked up four points in a row following four Roanoke errors. Etown came within three of the Maroons at 18-15 after a block by
Kyle McKiernan and
Cheston Jacobs. Etown tied up the set 24-24 after
Steve Swain smacked down a kill.
Blake Hildebrand and
Nick Chapman ended the set with kills at 28-26.
Roanoke again started with the lead in set two at 8-6. McKiernan and Chapman dropped in kills as Etown gained a 14-13 lead.
Tony Camillo points sandwiched a McKiernan kill extending Etown's lead, 22-18. The Blue Jays picked up the final three points to win, 25-19.
Elizabethtown jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the third set. Two Roanoke errors extended Etown's lead, 11-6. Etown then rattled off four points ending with a Jacobs and McKiernan block. The Maroons then went on a 6-2 run before the Blue Jays won, 25-20.
Game 2 vs. St. Vincent: W, 3-1
In set one against the Bearcats, Elizabethtown started off with a 7-4 lead after a kill from Swain. The Blue Jays ramped up and rattled off seven consecutive points following kills from Swain, McKiernan, and Chapman. Another kill from Swain extended the Blue Jays lead by eight, 20-12. Jacobs ended the set with a service ace to win, 25-14.
Set two saw Elizabethtown out in front again as they led, 9-3. Swain and
Trey Weedon put down kills in the four point run. The Bearcats then rattled off four points in a row to take a 13-12. The Bearcats and Blue Jays went back and forth before SVC put up four points in a row. The Bearcats finished the set on a three point run to win, 25-21.
Set three was close before Elizabethown led, 10-6 after a kill from Chapman and an ace from
Nate Seeger. Etown kept gaining momentum as they pulled ahead, 18-9. Hildebrand and Camillo recorded kills on the run. Kills from Swain and aces from Seeger ended the set in the Blue Jays favor, 25-13.
The Blue Jays came out strong again as they led, 10-5 in set four. The two teams traded points before a kill and an ace from Chapman brought Etown's lead to 21-13. The Bearcats rattled off four consecutive points at the end of the set but it wasn't enough as Etown won, 25-20.
The Blue Jays return home March 18 as they host Lancaster Bible and Arcadia in a tri-match starting at 12 PM.
