Deiaco Grabs 100th Career Draw Control in Defensive Battle vs. Goucher

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown women's lacrosse team opened up Landmark Conference play with an 11-10 win over visiting Goucher on a cold, rainy Saturday at Wolf Field.

Junior, Sam Deiaco grabbed her 100th career draw control as she grabbed five in the game.

Elizabethtown got right to it as Cassidy Pawlicki won the first draw control and took it straight to the goal in the first ten seconds. Megan Gress assisted Deiaco on the Blue Jays second goal right before Goucher tallied their first. At the 6:48 minute mark, the Gophers tied up the game on a man-up goal. Deiaco and Ulmer responded back for Etown as the Blue Jays led, 4-2 after the first.

To start the second quarter, Gress scored her first goal of the game. Fifteen seconds later Goucher scored on a free-position attempt. The Blue Jays then recorded three straight goals led by Deiaco and Drew Bridges. The Gophers cut the Blue Jays lead in half as Etown continued to lead, 8-4. At the 7:38 minute mark, Gress added another goal for Etown. The Gophers then scored three straight goals to come within two. Deiaco brought Elizabethtown's goals to ten as they ended the half with a 10-7 lead.

Both defenses picked up in the third quarter as Goucher was the lone scorer tacking on two goals. After three quarter, Etown led, 10-9. In the fourth, the Blue Jays fired off five shots in the quarter before Gress recorded a hat-trick to extend Elizabethtown's lead, 11-9. Following an Etown turnover, with just seconds on the clock Goucher scored their 10th goal as time expired.

Deiaco led the team with five goals, five ground balls, and five draw controls. Gress recorded a hat-trick along with four assists. Alayna Trynosky picked up eight saves in the goal.

Elizabethtown stays in conference play as they host Scranton on Saturday, April 1st at 1PM.
