Alvernia Downs Blue Jays in High Scoring Affair

READING, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown women's lacrosse fell, 19-12 in a high scoring affair at Alvernia University, Wednesday afternoon. Combined the two teams scored 31 goals. 

Sophomore. Rachel Murphy recorded a career-high 14 saves in the goal for the Blue Jays. Drew Bridges recorded her first career-hat trick. 

The first quarter was a slow start for Elizabethtown as the Golden Wolves fired off seven goals. Etown got on the board about two minutes later at the 4:49 minute mark. Megan Gress scored her first of two goals on the day. Etown quickly responded cutting Alvernia's lead, 7-2. Gress assisted Sam Deiaco on her first of four goals. At the 3:00 minute mark, the Golden Wolves tacked on their eighth goal of the game. With just over a minute remaining,  Bridges scored her first goal of the game on a free-position opportunity. 

To start the second, Alvernia struck first scoring two goals to extend their lead, 10-3. Madison Hennelly scored at the 8:37 minute mark before, Deiaco added another goal for the Blue Jays. Going into halftime, Alvernia led, 12-5. 

The Golden Wolves came right out of the gate, tacking on five goals to start the third quarter. With 17 seconds remaining, Kendall Ulmer scored on a woman-up free-position as Etown trailed, 17-6 to end the quarter. 

Elizabethtown really got going in the fourth quarter scoring four of their final six goals within two minutes 30 seconds of each other. Deiaco, Bridges, Gress, and Hennelly each scored in the time frame. Alvernia scored two more before Bridges and Deiaco scored Etown's final two in the final minute of play. 

The Blue Jays open up Landmark Conference play this Saturday, March 25 at 1:00 PM vs. Goucher.
