WASHINGTON, D.C.-- The Elizabethtown men's basketball team fell, 88-65 at Catholic University, Wednesday evening as freshman
Reese Ziegler totaled a career-high ten points.
The Blue Jays move 10-11 overall and 4-7 in Landmark Conference play. Catholic moves to 21-1 overall and 10-1 in conference play.
Early in the first half the game was close as Catholic led, 12-8 after a three-pointer. The Cardinals then pulled away with a 13-point lead following a free-throw. Two three's from Ziegler and one from
Jalin Robinson cut the Cardinals lead, 22-30. At the 8:35 minute mark, Catholic made a layup then almost three minutes went by before
Austin Finarelli made a layup of his own. Two Catholic jumpers and a free-throw gave Catholic their largest lead of the half. Robinson and Finarelli finished off the half for the Blue Jays as they trailed, 34-47.
Rance Russo started off the second half for Etown with a three-pointer. Catholic then put up six straight points before Ziegler made a jumper. The Blue Jays and Cardinals traded points before Russo sunk a three with 14 minutes left to play. At the 11:32 minute mark, Catholic led by 21 points, 48-69. Catholic kept up their momentum as they gained a 25-point lead with seven minutes remaining. Russo brought the Cardinals lead down to 20-points after sinking a three-pointer.
EJ Finney and
Jadon Green ended the shooting for Etown as the Blue Jays fell, 65-88.
The Cardinals had four scorers in double-digits as they shot, 54% from the field and 61.1% from the 3-point arch. Russo led the game with 18 points and went 3-3 in three-pointers. Robinson totaled 13 points while Ziegler recorded a career-high 10 points and went 2-3 from the 3-point arch. Etown also only recorded four turnovers which is a season-low.
Elizabethtown will host Scranton this Saturday, February 11th at 4:00 PM in their final conference doubleheader of the season.
