ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown men's basketball team dropped to 4-8 in Landmark Conference play as they were defeated by Scranton, 80-70. Prior to the game, the team honored graduate student,
Jalin Robinson for senior day.
Through the first five minutes of play, Elizabethtown didn't make a single shot as Scranton led, 16-0.
Niko Georgelis made the first bucket for the Blue Jays at, 14-43. Etown slowly began chipping away at the Royals lead. For several minutes the two teams traded points. Baskets from
Dylan Rowe,
Rance Russo, and
Ben Stanton brought Etown within nine points of Scranton. A three from
Austin Finarelli and two free-throws from Robinson brought the Blue Jays within four points at, 25-29. With less than five minutes remaining, A layup from
Jayden Holland and Georgelis and a three-pointer from Georgelis left Etown trailing by five, 32-37 at halftime.
Jumper's from Stanton and Robinson got the shooting started for Etown as they continued to trail by five. Scranton began to pull away and at the 13:38 minute mark the Royals led, 51-40. Midway through the half, Scranton had extended their lead by 13 points. At the 8:04 minute mark, Stanton made a layup to bring the score to, 49-61. For the next five minutes the Blue Jays would trail by more than ten until Russo sunk a three with two minutes remaining. Russo and Robinson each banked three's to bring Etown within seven at, 77-70. Scranton would make three more free-throws before the end of the game sealing their, 80-70 win over Elizabethtown.
Rowe led the team with 14 points as he went 5-9 in field goals and grabbed seven rebounds. Stanton added 12 points and went 6-10 in field goals. Robinson, Russo, and Georgelis each tallied nine points. Etown shot 43.5% from the field while Scranton shot 48.3%.
Elizabethtown will host Drew this Wednesday, February 15 at 7PM for their final home game of the regular season.
