BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College women's basketball team came back from an eight-point halftime deficit and seven-point fourth-quarter deficit, but couldn't overcome them as Moravian held them off for the 75-70 win at Johnston Hall on Saturday.
DaniRae Renno recorded her sixth double-double of the season and led four in double figures.
Elizabethtown (18-2, 8-2 Landmark) led early thanks to layups from Renno and
Summer McNulty. Tessa Zamolyi helped lead Moravian back and get in front with back-to-back hoops to make it 8-6 for the Greyhounds in the first. King tied it at 8-8 the next time down the floor with two of her 15 points.
The teams were back and forth over the final half of the opening quarter. Down one, Renno connected on a layup with a second before the buzzer to give the Blue Jays a one-point lead going into the second.Â
A 6-0 run by Moravian (12-9, 5-5 Landmark) near the midway point of the second quarter put the Hounds ahead by seven and forced Etown to call timeout to settle things down. King, McNulty, and Renno led the charge back as they brought the Jays within a point 27-26 with 3:47 left before half.
Moravian closed out the second on an 11-4 run to take an eight-point lead, 38-30, into the break.
Elizabethtown has been good out of the locker room and the third quarter was their time to get back into the game, which they did. By the 6:23 mark of the third, McNulty's three had given the Blue Jays a one-point advantage, 43-42, as they came out on a 13-4 run.
It was a one possession game the rest of the third as both sides went up and down the court, tying or trading leads. Moravian led by one after three.
The Greyhounds built up a seven-point lead in the fourth to really put the pressure on Etown, but the Jays didn't fold.
Cass Peris got inside for a layup to get EC going again. After a split at the foul line from McNulty, Peris once again got inside, this time on a feed from
Kaeli Romanowski, and went up for two more.
Lindsay Boyd then tied the game at 70-70 after her driving layup with 1:51 left.Â
Morgan Amy was able to close out the game for Moravian at the foul line. The Greyhounds were able to prevent the Blue Jays from scoring the rest of the way and Amy knocked down four foul shots over the final 22 seconds to ice the game.
DaniRae Renno posted 18 points and 10 rebounds for Elizabethtown on 8-for-11 shooting. King had 15, McNulty added 14, and Boyd joined the double figure scoring list with 13.
Elizabethtown will host Catholic on Wednesday, February 8, at 7 p.m.
