GLENSIDE, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown women's lacrosse team opened up the 2023 in dominating fashion as they defeated Arcadia, 16-7, Saturday afternoon.
Madison Hennelly,
Hannah Cressman,
Sam Deiaco, and
Megan Meyer each totaled two goals or more in the win.
Elizabethtown struck first in the 13:27 minute as Cressman assisted Deico on the goal. Arcadia immediately responded with a goal of their own. To end the first quarter, Cressman recorded her first goal of the game with an assist from
Megan Gress. The Knights then scored two more goals to take a, 3-2 to end the quarter. Etown acted quick in the second quarter scoring just 45 seconds in. The Blue Jays kept gaining momentum as they added four more goals before the end of the half. Cressman and Deiaco scored for Etown while allowing just one goal from Arcadia. Elizabethtown went into halftime with a 7-4 lead.
To start the third quarter, Deiaco and Meyer each scored, just more than a minute apart to lead, 9-4. Etown closed out the quarter with three more goals from Meyer,
Kendall Ulmer, and Hennelly. After three, the Blue Jays led Arcadia, 12-5. In the final quarter more Blue Jays hot shooting led to three straight goals before the Knights scored again at 9:55. Gress added another goal at 6:02 before Arcadia scored on final goal of their own at 4:18.
Deiaco led the team with six goals and 11 shots. Meyer and Cressman each totaled three goals while Cressman also tallied seven assists. Hennelly added two and three caused turnovers.
