Southern Virginia Downs Blue Jays

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown men's volleyball team was back into Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) play, Friday evening as they hosted RV Southern Virginia. The Blue Jays won the first set before falling in the final three, 3-1. 

Set one was a thriller as Elizabethtown won, 27-25. The set started close as the teams traded points. Nick Chapman smacked down a kill, tying the set, 8-8. Southern Virginia pulled ahead to a, 14-10 after two consecutive kills.  The Knights kept holding the lead with just five points to go until set point. Etown then gained momentum going on an 8-1 run to take a, 22-21 lead. The Knights then went to set point with two points in a row before the Blue Jays grabbed the final three points to win, 27-25. 

Elizabethtown kicked off set two with a 9-6 lead after four consecutive points. A kill from Blake Hildebrand and three straight aces from Cheston Jacobs gave Etown the lead. The Blue Jays kept ahold of the lead at 14-10 with a kill from Chapman and an ace from Tony Camillo. Southern Virginia then tied up the set and took over from there to win set two, 25-22. 

Set three started about the same but the Knights started off with the lead at 8-5. Southern Virginia then rattled off six straight points to extend their lead, 15-8. A kill from Steve Swain brought the Blue Jays within six points of the Knights. Southern Virginia then closed out the set on a 9-1 run to win, 25-11. 

Set four started with a little back and forth as Southern Virginia just led by two. Two Etown errors brought the Knights lead up 17-10. The teams traded service errors through the end of the set with some Southern Virginia kills. The Knights grabbed the two final points to win set four, 25-16. 

Nate Seegar tallied 11 assists while Dan Barckholtz added ten. Chapman led the team in kills with ten while Swain totaled six kills. 

Elizabethtown is back in action tomorrow to compete in the Eagle Invite at Juniata. They face Penn St.-Altoona first at 3PM.
