HUNTINGDON, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown men's volleyball team traveled to Juniata College to compete in the Eagle Invite, Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays defeated Penn St.-Altoona, 3-1 before falling, 3-1 to No. 1 Juniata.
In the first match against Penn St.-Altoona, Elizabethtown started off set one down, 9-5 after three consecutive points. The Lions held the lead, 16-10 before Etown came back within three after a kill and ace from
Nick Chapman. The Blue Jays took over the lead, 18-17 after kills from
Cheston Jacobs,
Dan Barckholtz, Chapman, and
Blake Hildebrand. Etown grabbed their final three points of the set to win, 25-21. Starting off set two, Etown was off to a 9-4 lead after a service ace from
Kyle McKiernan. A kill from
Cole Burkhardt and two Lions attack errors extended Etown's lead to 14-9. The Blue Jays then jumped to a 23-16 lead after kills from McKiernan and Chapman. The Lions crept closer at 23-21 but the Blue Jays came out on top, 25-22.
In the third set, the teams kept it close with the Lions leading, 11-8 to start. Etown tied up the set at 13-13 after four points in a row. The Blue Jays then pulled out to a one point lead after two McKiernan kills. The Lions finished up the set rattling off four consecutive points to win, 26-24. The Lions and Blue Jays were again competitive in set four. Etown led, 10-8 after three points in a row. After back and forth the Blue Jays ended the set 25-21 following two Nate Seegar service aces.
In the second match of the day against No. 1 Juniata the Blue Jays took set one, 25-23 before falling in the next three sets. Juniata started off the first set with a 10-5 lead. Etown came within one at 12-13 after two Juniata errors. The Blue Jays then came out to a 17-15 lead following a Chapman kill. After a big block by
Tony Camillo and McKiernan the Blue Jays led, 20-18. Kills from
Steve Swain and Hildebrand gave Etown the 25-23 win. Juniata won the final three sets, 11-25, 15-25, 12-25.
Elizabethtown is back March 1st at Cairn at 7 PM.
