MADISON, N.J. -- Sophomore guard
Summer McNulty continued her recent scoring tear through the Landmark Conference as she led the Elizabethtown College women's basketball team on Wednesday at Drew with her second straight 30-plus point game. McNulty finished the night with 31 as she led four in double figures for the Blue Jays, who blew open the game in the second half after leading by 10. The win was number 20 on the year, matching the program's most under head coach
Veronica Nolt.
No. 20 Elizabethtown (20-3, 10-3 Landmark) utilized a quick start to get out ahead of the Rangers in the first quarter. It was 7-2 early as
Cyleigh Wilson found
Jessica King right away for two to get Etown out in front.
DaniRae Renno took a feed from McNulty on the next possession to make it 4-2 and Wilson followed that up with a trey the next time down as the Jays began 3-for-3 from the floor.
Lindsay Boyd assisted on Wilson's three.
Drew (16-8, 6-7 Landmark) would tie it at 7-7, but a 17-7 run over the final 6:55 had EC ahead by 10 after one. Boyd led the Blue Jays in the first with a team-high eight points on a perfect 3-for-3 from the field, including two threes. King added six and three rebounds.
McNulty got going in the second, hitting all six of her shot attempts for 14 points. McNulty and Renno combined for 19 of the team's 21 second-quarter points as they maintained their 10-point lead going into halftime, 45-35.
Cass Peris stepped up for the Jays in the third, playing all but three minutes of the quarter with Renno picking up a pair of fouls. Peris accounted for two of the Jays' five steals in the third as they forced seven Drew turnovers in the quarter. McNulty added seven more to her total as Etown outscored the Rangers 18-14 to add on to their lead going into the fourth.
Elizabethtown kept their hot shooting going in the fourth, making six of their 10 attempts in the fourth, half of their three-point attempts (2-for-4), and a rock solid 10-for-11 at the foul line. For the game, the Blue Jays were 18-for-20 at the foul line, their top free throwing shooting game of the season. It was the sixth game of the season where Etown made at least 18 foul shots in a game.
McNulty and Renno again were issues for the Rangers, combining for 13 points. Boyd and
Clare Marchese both hit fourth-quarter threes as they finished 9-for-19 from beyond the arc, their seventh game hitting at least 46 percent or better from deep.
Allyia Kennedy added four points in two and a half minutes of action in the fourth and
Kaeli Romanowski dished out three of her five assists in the final frame. Elizabethtown assisted on 21 of their 30 made field goals in the game.
The Blue Jays shot 30-for-52 on the night (57.7 percent), their third-best shooting night of the season and ninth time overall they've shot 50 percent or better in a game.
McNulty's 31 points came on 12-for-17 from the floor and 3-for-6 from three. Renno led the way with seven makes in seven attempts at the free throw line and 17 points total. King was 4-for-4 (10 points) and Kennedy also hit a pair at the line for the Jays. Wilson recorded a team-high six assists and Peris registered four steals to lead the defense. Boyd and McNulty both had three triples.
Elizabethtown's 20 wins match last season's total with one regular season game to go. The 10 Landmark Conference wins are the fourth time they've gotten at least double figures under Nolt. It also marks the first time since 1999-00/2000-01 that the Blue Jays have recorded back-to-back 20-win seasons.
The Blue Jays finish out the season at Goucher on Saturday, February 18, at 2 p.m.
