No. 7 Messiah Sweeps Blue Jays

GRANTHAM, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown men's volleyball fell to No. 7 Messiah in straight sets, Wednesday evening in a non-conference matchup. 

The first set started tight as the two teams traded points until Elizabethtown recorded three points in a row on Messiah errors. Leading,8-6 another Falcons error and a kill from Tony Camillo brought the Blue Jays lead to 10-8. From there, Messiah gained momentum shelling out four consecutive points to take over the lead. Messiah moved to a four-point lead following two Etown errors at 18-14. A kill from Nick Chapman kept the Falcons lead by four. Messiah held their lead through the end of the set to win, 25-20. 

To start set two, Elizabethtown jumped to a 5-1 lead after four points in a row. A kill from Chapman, an ace from Blake Hildebrand, and a block by Camillo and Steve Swain put the Blue Jays in front. The Blue Jays held onto their lead with three consecutive points at 11-6. Messiah then rattled off four straight points coming within one of Etown. The Falcons quickly took over as they went on a 11-1 run which jumped them to a, 21-14 lead. Two Messiah errors and kills from Chapman and Swain ended the points for Etown as they fell, 25-17. 

The final set was close as Elizabethtown started off with a 6-4 lead following four consecutive points. After trading points, Messiah went on a 6-0 run to take a four-point lead. After a few Messiah errors, the Blue Jays came back within on of the Falcons at, 15-16. Through the end of the set, the Blue Jays trailed by no more than but ultimately fell, 22-25 in the third set. 

Chapman led the team with nine kills (.368), two aces, and four digs. Nate Seegar had ten assists while Dan Barckholtz tallied nine. Swain and Kyle McKiernan each totaled four kills and Swain also added four digs. 

Elizabethtown prepares for a long weekend as they will host RV Southern Virginia in CVC play Friday night before traveling to compete in the Eagle Invite hosted by No. 1 Juniata.
