Blue Jays Drop CVC Match to Marymount (Va.)

ARLINGTON, Va.-- The Elizabethtown men's volleyball team opened up Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) play, Saturday afternoon as they traveled down to Marymount (Va.). The Blue Jays fell, 3-1 (19-25, 25-23, 17-25, 17-25). 

Marymount started set one in front, 7-4 after three points in a row. A kill from Nick Chapman and one from Cheston Jacobs brought the Blue Jays within one. After trading points, the Saints rattled off four consecutive points to take a 19-13 lead. Two Kyle McKiernan kills sandwiched a Saints attack error at, 16-19. Marymount ended the set on a 6-3 run taking set one, 25-19. 

Set two started off tight as the Blue Jays and Saints went back and forth. A kill from Jacobs and a Chapman service ace tied up the set, 10-10. The two teams kept the set close with multiple ties before Etown picked up three consecutive points ending in a Steve Swain kill. Another kill from Swain put the Blue Jays up, 19-17. A Marymount kill and Etown attack error tied the score, 20-20. The Blue Jays won set two, 25-23 bookened by two Saints service errors. 

The Saints brought momentum with them in set three as they jumped ahead to a 7-3 lead. Four points in a row from Etown tied up the set, 8-8. Marymount then pulled ahead, 17-10 after going on an 8-1 run. Kills from Swain, Chapman, and McKiernan closed out the set for Etown as the Blue Jays fell, 17-25. 

Marymount began set four with a 5-2 lead before Elizabethtown grabbed three points in a row ending with a Krebs kill. After some back-n-forth, the Saints rattled off eight straight points to take a 17-8 lead. A kill from Swain and McKiernan brought the Blue Jays within six of the Saints. Etown couldn't recover as McKiernan, Jacobs, and Nate Seegar smacked down Etown's final kills, dropping set four, 17-25. 

McKiernan totaled a career-high 14 kills while hitting .345. Swain picked up eight kills and seven digs. Seegar grabbed 18 assists. 

Elizabethtown will travel to Messiah this Wednesday, February 15th at 7 PM.
