No. 15 Elizabethtown pounds the paint in win over Juniata

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College women's basketball team had the size advantage over visiting Juniata on Wednesday and the Blue Jays used it to thrash the Eagles in the end, 86-44. DaniRae Renno tied a career-high with 27 points on a career-best 13-for-16 from the floor to lead all scorers. Summer McNulty pumped in 13 while hitting all five attempts from the field.

No. 15 Elizabethtown (18-1, 8-1 Landmark) came into Wednesday night's game with the 22nd-best scoring offense in the country (75.2ppg), the third-best shooting percentage (.465), and second-best three-point percentage (.380). The Blue Jays surpassed each of those averages on the night.

Lindsay Boyd and Summer McNulty each had six first-quarter points to pace the Blue Jays early. They led 19-11 after one, and in the second, that's when Renno asserted herself down low. The sophomore was 8-for-10 from the floor for 16 points, outscoring Juniata (6-14, 1-8 Landmark) on her own in the quarter, 16-10. Etown would led 42-21 at halftime.

It was more of the same for the Jays in the third quarter as Renno and Jessica King combined to go 7-of-7 for 14 points and Cyleigh Wilson caught fire from beyond the arc, hitting on three of her four attempts in the quarter. The junior leads all of Division III in three-point shooting and finished above her season average, going 3-for-6 on the night.

Elizabethtown kept pouring it on in the paint as their forwards were able to out-muscle and out-position the Eagles' defenders on the inside. EC had a 14-6 advantage in points in the paint in the third as they continued to build onto their lead. The Jays recorded 32 third-quarter points to take a commanding lead into the fourth.

Ellie Fasick had a team-high six points in the fourth quarter. Georgia Panopoulos would finish a layup on the fast break and added an assist and two steals in the fourth. Clare Marchese knocked down a three in the third and hit a pull-up jumper with time winding down on the shot clock in the fourth. Allyia Kennedy also recorded points in the quarter as 12 different players scored for the Blue Jays in the game.

Etown won the battle down low with 54 points in the paint to 22 for the Eagles, including 20 second chance points to just seven for Juniata. The Blue Jay bench also outscored JC 24-9 and held the Eagles to 1-for-13 shooting in the fourth quarter and 25 percent for the game, the best defensive effort put forth from Elizabethtown this season and fifth time they've held their opponent under 30 percent in a game.

Renno, the reigning Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week, came into the night tied for 19th in the nation in field goal percentage and tops in the league, and will see that average rise after her second game of the season shooting at least 80 percent (min. 10 shot attempts).

Elizabethtown concluded its four-game home stand 4-0 to improve to 10-0 at Thompson Gymnasium. The Blue Jays will head to Moravian on Saturday, February 4, at 2 p.m.
