ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown women's volleyball team was firing on all cylinders tonight as the Blue Jays swept Drew in the Landmark Conference Quarterfinal to avenge their regular season loss.
With
Emma Bitner's 32nd assist in the match she recorded her 1,000th career assist.
Karlee Ray led the team with 10 kills (.391) while
Gracie Britten totaled nine (.286).
Kambrie Hepler tallied 23 digs.
The first set started off tight between Elizabethtown and Drew as there were eight tied scores and six lead changes. After trading points early, Etown recorded three in a row to take a two-point lead after two straight kills from
Katie Scaggs. The Blue Jays again recorded three in a row as two kills sandwiched a Ranger attack error. After an Etown service error, the Blue Jays jumped to a 23-14 lead after tallying six straight points. Britten and
Georgianna Kahley contributed kills on the run. The Rangers added three more points before Kahley put down the final kill to win, 25-17.
At the start of set two, Elizabethtown started off a little slow until they rattled off six straight points to take an 8-5 lead. Drew recorded a kill before the Blue Jays doubled their lead to 12-6 after kills from Britten and
Savannah Lesley, along with an ace from Bitner. The Rangers then came within two of Etown before the Jays started to pull away. Ray, Scaggs, and Lesley recorded three straight kills for Etown to take a 19-14 lead. The Blue Jays ended the second set on a 6-1 run with Britten smacking down the final kill to win, 25-16.
Set three began with the Blue Jays out in front, 6-3 after a Lesley kill. The two teams went back and forth until Drew was able to go on a 5-1 run to take a 16-13 lead. Etown fought back as they recorded six straight points. Four kills in a row from Drew put them back in front at 20-19. A Kahley kill tied up the set at 20-20. Through the end of the set the Rangers totaled three more points as Elizabethtown won the final set, 25-23. Ray, Scaggs, and Bitner recorded kills, Kahley added an ace, and Scaggs and Ray combined on a block for the final Blue Jay points.
The Blue Jays will travel to Scranton this Thursday, November 9th at 7:00 PM for the Landmark Conference Semifinals.
