SCRANTON, Pa.-- For the third straight season the Elizabethtown women's volleyball team and Scranton met in the Landmark Conference semifinals. The Blue Jays were swept by the Royals with the set scores being, 15-25, 16-25, 26-28.
Elizabethtown closed out their season with a 17-11 overall record and a 6-3 record in the Landmark. The Blue Jays appeared in their fourth straight Landmark Conference semifinal match.
Scranton came out swinging in set one, as they led 6-1. Kills by
Savannah Lesley and
Katie Scaggs brought Etown within three of the Royals. After going on a 7-1 run the Royals doubled their lead to 16-7.
Georgianna Kahley smacked down a kill and Scaggs recorded a block bringing the score to 20-11; Scranton. Two Etown kills sandwiched an ace from
Emma Bitner, ending the Blue Jays scoring. Scranton tallied the final two points to win, 25-15.
Set two started with an Elizabethtown lead as Scaggs, Lesley, and
Karlee Ray recorded kills. After rattling off six straight points, Scranton took over the lead.
Gracie Britten totaled two kills to bring Etown back within two of the Royals. Elizabethtown kept it tight until Scranton led, 20-14 and from there the Royals pulled away from Etown. Scaggs and Lesley recorded a kill apiece before Scranton grabbed the final three points to win, 25-16.
The final set was the Blue Jays strongest as they forced extra points but ultimately fell, 28-26. The third set started out with the two teams trading points as Britten put down a kill to tie up the set, 7-7. Two Scranton errors, brought Etown within one at 14-15. The Royals then tallied three points in a row to extend their lead, 19-15. Etown gained momentum recording three straight points before rattling off four in a row. A Britten and Lesley kill along with two Scranton errors put the Jays out in front at 25-24. Scranton grabbed the next point to tie up the set before a Royal service error gave Etown the following point. The Royals were able to secure the victory after rallying for the final three points to win, 28-26.
