ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown women's volleyball had a seven game win-streak snapped, Thursday evening as Eastern swept the Blue Jays. Eastern who is currently ranked fifth in Region V won, 25-16, 25-23, 25-18.
Eastern came out of the gate with an early 7-1 lead. Elizabethtown put up four straight points to come within two of the Eagles after two
Emma Bitner aces and kills from
Savannah Lesley and
Georgianna Kahley. The two teams traded points for a while with Eastern still holding the lead. The Eagles went on a 4-0 run to take a 23-15 lead. The Blue Jays grabbed one final point before the Eagles smacked down two final kills to win, 25-16.
Set two started with the two teams trading points. Elizabethtown tied up the set at 5-5 after an Eagle attack error and a kill from
Katie Scaggs. Eastern pulled away as they rattled off six straight points to take a commanding, 11-5 lead. Etown came within one of Eastern after going on a 6-1 run.
Gracie Britten and Kahley added kills while Britten, Lesley and Kahley also added blocks on the run. The Eagles gained momentum as they went on a 9-1 run tallying five kills. Etown then gained momentum coming back within five of Eastern before closing the gap at 23-21; Eastern. Two Eagle errors brought the Blue Jays within two of set point before the Eagles closed the set, 25-23 with a kill.
Eastern began set three with a 9-4 lead following a Blue Jay attack error. A
Karlee Ray kill brought the score to 13-8 with Eastern leading. The Eagles recorded five points in a row to continue to pull away from Etown. Lesley and Scaggs' kills sandwiched a Britten and
Kate Barbon block as the Blue Jays trailed by nine. Two Etown kills followed by two Eagle errors brought the Jays closer to Eastern at 23-17. Eastern smacked down a kill before Kahley recorded the final kill for Etown. The Eagles recorded the final match kill to win, 25-18.
Elizabethtown will host #6 Drew in the Landmark Conference Quarterfinals on Tuesday, November 7 at 7PM.
