#3 Christopher Newport hands women's basketball first loss

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Elizabethtown College women's basketball team went toe-to-toe once again with third-ranked Christopher Newport. The Blue Jays and Captains each totaled 37 points over the final two quarters, but it was the 13-point deficit at the half that did Etown in as they fell to CNU, 81-68, for their first loss of the season. Summer McNulty had a game-high 24 points.

Elizabethtown (3-1) had a lead in the first quarter, but after the game got tied up at 15-15 as the quarter wound down, the Captains pulled away with a 7-0 run to end the first and take a 22-15 lead into the second.

Christopher Newport (6-0) outscored the Jays again in the second quarter 22-16 and led by 13, 44-31, at the half. McNulty had a team-high 11 points at the break while Jessica King added eight.

Etown hung around and they were able to get the deficit back into single digits, but the Captains had an answer for each of the Jays' responses during the third and fourth quarters.

DaniRae Renno had six points and six boards over the final 20 minutes to notch a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds. McNulty went 9-for-20 in the game, including 13 in the second half, to finish with her 24 points, a season-high. King ended with 14 points and one rebound shy of a second straight double-double. Cyleigh Wilson had a team-high six assists.

McNulty and King were both named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Blue Jays will host Lebanon Valley on Wednesday, November 22, at 4 p.m.
