ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.-- Behind by just one at halftime, the Elizabethtown men's basketball team fell short against visiting King's (Pa.), Saturday afternoon with a score of 87-79.
Elizabethtown started off with a 9-5 lead after buckets made by
Austin Finarelli and
Dylan Rowe. King's drained a three to come within one before Etown dropped in two straight layups to hold the lead.
Alon Gorham and
Ben Stanton each sunk a three-pointer at the 11 minute mark to bring the score to 21-17. Midway through the half, Rowe added two free throws before a layup from Stanton to extend the Blue Jays lead by six. The Monarchs then went on a 12-0 run to take a 30-26 lead with five minutes remaining. With three minutes remaining in the half,
Reese Ziegler drained a three to take a one-point lead. Through the end of the half the two teams traded points with King's out in front, 36-35 at halftime.
The Monarchs score the first of the half on a jumper just 15 seconds in the second half. The two teams went back and forth until
Rance Russo tied up the game, 44-44 with a three-pointer. King's then added seven straight points to go up, 51-44. At the 12 minute mark, EJ Finnery made a layup to come within four of the Monarchs. King's kept gaining momentum as they extended their lead by 12 midway through the half. Russo sunk a three to keep Etown within reach of King's. The Blue Jays continued to trail, 75-64 after three straight Etown layups. Finarelli added a three-pointer to cut the Monarchs lead to nine. In the final two and a half minutes, the teams would trade free throws with King's coming out on top, 87-79.
Finarelli led the game with 19 points as he went 2-5 in three-pointers while also grabbing six steals. Russo added 18 points while Finney tallied 12 and Ziegler tallied ten points from the bench. Rowe led the team with 11 rebounds.
Elizabethtown returns home, Tuesday, November 21 at 7PM as they host Lebanon Valley before Thanksgiving break.
