ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.-- Down by 12 at halftime, the Elizabethtown men's basketball team completed a comeback against Lebanon Valley, Tuesday evening to win 68-67.
Austin Finarelli recorded a career-high 23 points and led all scorers.
The game started in a tight match-up with the two teams trading points. Finarelli made a layup four minutes in to give Etown a 11-9 lead. Minutes later,
Niko Georgelis extended the Blue Jays lead by five. Three straight layups from Lebanon Valley put them in front by one at 17-16. Six straight points made by the Blue Jays gave them back the lead with eight minutes remaining in the first half. In the final eight minutes, the Dutchmen began to pull away as they went into halftime with a 38-26 lead.
Lebanon Valley grabbed the first points of the second half to bring their lead to 41-26. A three and a layup from Finarelli brought the Jays within ten of LVC. LVC then regained momentum before
Reese Ziegler and
Tyreke Herbert contributed points on a 7-0 run. Following a Dutchmen layup, three Etown free throws brought the Blue Jays within eight as they trailed, 49-41. Finarelli once again added a layup and three-pointer, back to back to cut LVC's lead to 52-48. With five minutes remaining in the half, Lebanon Valley continued to hold at least a five-point lead. In the final five minutes, Finarelli,
Alon Gorham, and Ziegler would chip away at LVC's lead. Finarelli sunk a three with a minute remaining followed by a jumper from Gorham and a defensive stop to win, 68-67.
The Blue Jays will return after the Thanksgiving break to travel to Catholic on Wednesday, November 29 to open up Landmark Conference play.
