Drew Sweeps Blue Jays in Conference Play

MADISON, N.J.-- The Elizabethtown women's volleyball team dropped a Landmark Conference match at Drew, Friday evening. The Rangers swept the Blue Jays, 3-0. 

Drew began set one out in front with an 8-5 lead after an Elizabethtown error. The Blue Jays kept the it tight staying within four of the Rangers after Savannah Lesley smacked down a kill. Drew slowly began to pull away as they rattled off five straight points extending their lead to, 22-13. Etown then went on a 4-0 run as Katie Scaggs added a kill and Kambrie Hepler served up an ace. Drew came within one of set point before Etown fought back to 24-21. Drew then recorded the final point to win, 25-21. 

The second set started with the two teams trading points. Two straight Ranger errors brought Elizabethtown trailing by one at 7-6. Drew then gained momentum as they pulled away, leading 19-12. The Blue Jays got back within four following four points in a row. A block by Georgianna Kahley and Gracie Britten, kills from Karlee Ray and Britten along with a Kahley service ace gave the Blue Jays 16 points. Etown tied up the set at 22-22 after tallying five straight points. Kills from Scaggs and Kahley brought the team to set point but Etown was unable to secure the win as the Rangers grabbed the final three points to win, 26-24. 

The third set started similar to the second as they two teams went back and forth. Elizabethtown pulled ahead to a 9-7 lead after five points in a row. Etown continued their lead to 12-9 after kills from Ray and Scaggs. Three straight points by the Rangers put them out in front, 18-15. After some more back and forth, Drew was within one of set point. Lesley recorded the final kill before the Rangers took the set, 25-20. 

Elizabethtown will look to pick up a Landmark Conference win as they travel to Scranton, Saturday at 4PM.
