ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown women's volleyball team fell in a hard fought match against visiting Stevenson, Monday evening. The Blue Jays fell, 3-2 to the Mustangs.
Set one started close as Etown held a small margin of a lead at 7-5. The Blue Jays then tallied four in a row as
Katie Scaggs and
Karlee Ray put down kills to take a 13-10 lead. Neither team would give up as the Blue Jays and Mustangs traded points till the end. A kill by Scaggs and a block from
Savannah Lesley and Scaggs brought Etown to set point. Stevenson grabbed one final point off a block before
Georgianna Kahley smacked down a kill to win, 25-23.
Elizabethtown started set two with a 6-3 lead before the Mustangs pulled ahead 11-6 after eight consecutive points. Etown then rattled off four straight points to come within one of Stevenson.
Gracie Britten, Kahley and Ray all contributed kills on the run. Stevenson then extended their lead after five straight points and grabbed another three to take a 19-12 lead. Kills from Scaggs and Lesley along with an ace from
Kambrie Hepler brought the Jays to 18-21. Stevenson took the final point off a block to win, 25-20.
Stevenson raced off to a 10-5 lead early in set three. The Mustangs kept pulling away from the Blue Jays has they recorded five points in a row. Through the end of the set the two teams went back and forth but it wasn't enough for Etown as Stevenson won, 25-17.
Set three was just as tight as set one, as Elizabethtown led, 9-7 after Lesley smacked down three straight kills. The two traded rallies before the Blue Jays tallied four in a row, taking a four-point lead. After going on a 5-1 run, Stevenson tied up the set, 19-19. The Mustangs put up two more points before four more came straight from Etown. The Blue Jays led, 24-21.
Kate Barbon recorded the final point for Etown with a kill to win, 25-23.
Stevenson gained momentum going into the final set as they jumped to a 9-3 lead after five straight points. Barbon and Britten kept Etown within four of Stevenson. The Mustangs closed out the match on a 5-1 run to win, 15-7.
Emma Bitner just surpassed her career-high assists as she tallied 42. Scaggs Led the match with 15 kills (.333) while Lesley pitched in 12. Lesley recorded her fourth double-double of the season while Bitner recorded her fifth.
The Blue Jays are back home this Wednesday as they host Lancaster Bible at 7PM.
