Catholic Coasts Past Blue Jays

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Elizabethtown field hockey team faced Catholic on the road, Wednesday evening in Landmark Conference play. The Cardinals cruised to a 5-0 victory over the Blue Jays.

Angelina Giglio-Tos stopped a season-high 11 shots for the Blue Jays.

The first quarter was all Catholic as they held Etown to zero shots while the Cardinals managed to fire off six. Megan Meyer took the first shot attempt for the Blue Jays at the start of the second quarter, but it went just wide. Catholic began to gain momentum early in the second quarter as they as the Cardinals were able to score their first goal of the game at the 17:51 minute mark. Just three minutes later after some quick passing by the Cardinals they went up, 2-0 over Elizabethtown. After Giglio-Tos made two consecutive saves in the goal, Catholic extended their lead to 3-0 with four minutes remaining in the second.

In the third, Catholic continued to be dominate scoring their fourth and final goals just four minutes apart. The fourth quarter started with Catholic possession as they were awarded five penalty corners before Etown was able to hold on to the ball. In the 56th minute, Etown was awarded two corners in a row, but the team was unable to get off a shot.

Elizabethtown is back on the road this Saturday as they take on Wilkes at 5PM.
