Total Team Effort Lifts Blue Jays over Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown women's volleyball team got back into the win column, Tuesday evening inside Houts Gymnasium at Susquehanna as the Blue Jays swept the River Hawks. 

Set one started in a tight race as Elizabethtown and Susquehanna traded points. Early on, Karlee Ray and Katie Scaggs smacked down kills to lead, 8-7. Etown continued with a close lead following a kill by Gracie Britten and an ace from Emma Bitner. Five straight points by the Blue Jays put Etown up, 19-12 vs. the River Hawks. Scaggs and Georgianna Kahley contributed two straight blocks on the run. The River Hawks came back within four before the Blue Jays added another three in a row. Savannah Lesley ended the set to win 25-20 with two kills. 

Elizabethtown changed the tone of set two as they jumped to an early, 7-1 lead. Susquehanna then rattled off six straight points taking a one point lead over Etown. Kahley and Scaggs re-took the lead at 11-10. The River Hawks once again took the lead at 17-14 before Elizabethtown was able to tie up the set, 17-17. Kambrie Hepler and Britten added kills to tie up the set. After some back and forth the score was tied up at 24-24 to force the extra points. Bitner and a River Hawk attack error gave the Blue Jays the 27-25 win. 

Set three started similar to set two, Etown started off with a 8-3 lead. Kills from Kahley, Hepler, and Scaggs brought the score to 12-5. Scaggs pitched in two more kills, giving Etown a ten-point lead. Lesley smacked down a kill bringing the Blue Jays just five-points away from match point as they led, 20-12. Britten then added a kill before Susquehanna gained some momentum going on a 5-0 run. The River Hawks had closed the gap to 21-19 but Etown was able to record three points in a row just shy of match point. Scaggs dropped in the final kill to win set three, 25-20. 

Kahley totaled eight kills, eight digs, and five block assists. Scaggs recorded ten kills, five block assists and a solo block. Bitner tallied 31 assists while Hepler totaled 32 digs. 

Elizabethtown is back at home and in conference action as they host Catholic this Friday at 7 PM.
