Barrage of threes from Wilson, women's basketball lead to win over Goucher

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Cyleigh Wilson tied her career-high with six threes and the Elizabethtown College women's basketball team hit a season-high 12 on their way to beating Goucher 84-55 at Thompson Gymnasium on Saturday. Wilson led all scorers with 19 points. Lindsay Boyd added 14 and DaniRae Renno had 10 points for the Blue Jays.

All five starters contributed to the 9-0 run to start the game for Elizabethtown (15-1, 5-1 Landmark). Boyd found Renno for the layup, then assisted on McNulty's jumper, and had the helper on Wilson's first three of the game with 7:03 left in the first. Boyd knocked down a jumper in the lane on Wilson's pass to make it 9-0 before the Gophers hit their first shot of the quarter with 5:46 remaining.

Seven different Blue Jays tallied points in the first for Etown as Jessica King, Makenna Mummert, and Taylor Huyck also got on the scoresheet in the opening 10 minutes. Huyck got to the rim with time winding down and drew the foul with two seconds to go. She would hit the two freebies and send Elizabethtown into the second quarter ahead 26-10.

The 16-point lead was helpful as the Jays would shoot just 3-for-10 in the second quarter. Goucher (3-14, 0-6 Landmark) outscored EC 15-10 to get within 11 by halftime, 36-25.

Etown got back to where it had left off in the first quarter, shooting over 50 percent in the third, 10-for-18, including 5-for-10 from beyond the arc. Boyd hit the first of the five threes and one of her two in the game.

A little run by the Gophers brought them within nine with 5:13 showing on the clock. Wilson would hit another three to slow down the Goucher momentum. Later in the quarter, Boyd would grab an offensive rebound off a missed foul shot and dish out to Wilson, who stepped into another three in the third that put the score at 55-40 as the Jays began pulling away.

Huyck hit the fifth and final trey of the third with 21 seconds left as Elizabethtown finished the quarter with a 19-point lead.

Huyck and Mummert each hit threes early in the fourth and then Boyd cruised to back-to-back fast break layups as the lead grew to almost 30 a little over three minutes into the fourth.

Cass Peris, Georgia Panopoulos, and Allyia Kennedy finished out the game with scoring plays for Etown. Peris drove to her right and went up for the contested layup. After Ellie Fasick's block at the defensive end, Clare Marchese got the ball out to Panopoulos, who saw a lane and drive to the hoop for two with 1:42 left. Marchese found a cutting Kennedy in the low post for two with the left hand as the Jays saw out the game for the blowout win.

Elizabethtown will face Drew at home on Wednesday, January 25, at 7 p.m.
