Russo Records Career-High 33 Points as Blue Jays Ground Gophers

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown men's basketball team got back into the win-column, Saturday as they defeated Goucher, 80-67. Rance Russo led the game with a career-high 33 points. 

Starting off the first half, Elizabethtown and Goucher went back and forth as a three from Russo brought the Blue Jays out in front, 10-7. With the help from Jalin Robinson, Russo, Dylan Rowe, and Austin Finarelli, Etown went on a 12-0 run to lead the Gophers by ten points. A layup and another three-pointer from Russo brought the score to, 27-16. With five minutes remaining in the half, Goucher brought Etown's lead down to a single digit after the Gophers went on a nine-point run. With exactly four minutes left, Reese Ziegler sunk a three. About a minute later, Russo made a dunk with the Blue Jays leading by seven, 34-27. Elizabethtown went into halftime with a 36-31 lead over Goucher. 

In the second half three's from Niko Georgelis and Russo started off the shooting for Elizabethtown. Sandwiched between Goucher jumpers, a Russo three and a jumper from Tyreke Herbert brought the Blue Jays lead to, 53-44. Two three-pointers and a layup kept Goucher within range of Etown as seven minutes remained. With just five minutes remaining, Elizabethtown jumped to a big lead as the Blue Jays tallied 11 points in a row. With 3:38 on the clock, Etown led 73-56. A Ziegler layup extended Etown's lead by 20-points. With six seconds on the clock, Goucher sunk on last three-pointer as Elizabethtown won, 80-67. 

Russo led the game with 33 points as he went 5-8 in three-pointers and picked up six rebounds. Rowe recorded his second double-double of the season with ten points and ten rebounds. Herbert added eight points while Ziegler also added eight points for a career-high. Elizabethtown shot 51.7% from the field and 47.6% in three-pointers. 

Elizabethtown hits the road, Wednesday, January 25th at 7 PM as they face Drew in a conference game.
