Cardinals Cruise Past Blue Jays with Hot Shooting

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown men's basketball team dropped their fourth straight game to an efficient Catholic Cardinals team, Wednesday evening.  The Blue Jays fell, 50-97. 

With the loss, Etown moves to 7-8 overall and 1-4 in the Landmark while Catholic improves to 15-1 overall and 4-1 in the Landmark. 

Catholic came out in full force to start as they led by double-digits with the first five minutes of play. A jumper by Niko Georgelis brought the Blue Jays back within eight points as Catholic led, 16-8. Following a Cardinal three-pointer, Catholic pulled away to lead by 15-points. A few minutes down the stretch the two teams traded points with Catholic still holding a substantial lead. Jalin Robinson sunk a three at the 7:08 minute mark as Catholic led by 13. With six minutes remaining, the Cardinals went on a 14-0, increasing their lead, 50-23. Rance Russo added two final free throws for the Blue Jays at the end of the half as Catholic led, 54-25 going into the locker room. 

Ben Stanton and Dylan Rowe started off the shooting for Elizabethtown in the second half as the Blue Jays continued to trail, 60-31. Midway through the half, Rowe made a layup making the score, 73-41. For the next three minutes, Catholic recorded went on a 12-point run. At the 6:06 minute mark, Reese Ziegler dropped in a three with Catholic leading, 46-87. In the final five minutes, EJ Finney added four points ending the shooting for Etown as the Blue Jays fell, 97-50. 

Rowe led the team with 16 points as he continues to be the Blue Jays leading scorer through three games. Ziegler totaled a career-high seven points off the bench as he went 3-4 in field goals while grabbing a steal. Russo and Robinson each added six points. Catholic shot 58.0% in field goals while holding Elizabethtown to a 35.1 FG%. Catholic dominated from the bench with 42 points. 

Elizabethtown returns home this Saturday, January 21 at 4 PM as they host Goucher in conference play.
