ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown women's volleyball team earned a 3-1 win over visiting Alvernia in a mid-week tilt. Set scores were 25-15, 23-25, 25-10, 25-14.
In set one, Elizabethtown raced ahead to an 11-4 lead after six consecutive points. A kill from
Gianna Krinock and
Bryanna Miller plus a service ace from
Kambrie Hepler put the Jays on top. The two teams traded points through the end of the set as the Golden Wolves were unable to catch up. Miller smacked down two kills in a row for a nine point lead. Alvernia tallied two more points before the Blue Jays won the first set 25-15 after an Alvernia attack error.
Set two started off in a back-and-forth fashion as Alvernia held a 6-5 lead after a service ace. Etown then rattled off the next three points on Golden Wolves errors. Alvernia retook the lead after four points in a row at 13-11. Through the set, both teams kept it close as Elizabethtown kept it interesting to take the next five points in a row. Kills from Krinock,
Katie Scaggs, and
Gracie Britten brought the Jays within one of the Golden Wolves. Alvernia then captured four more points just one away from set point but the Blue Jays fought back as they took the following four points. With the score 23-24, Alvernia put down one last kill to win set two, 25-23.
Etown used their defeat in set two to come back for revenge in set three as they jumped to a 14-5 lead. Kills from
Savannah Lesley, Scaggs, and Krinock with some Alvernia errors gave Etown the lead. As the teams continued to trade errors, the Blue Jays embarked on a 4-0 run extending their lead, 20-8. Back to back kills from Britten and one final service ace from Miller gave the Blue Jays the third set victory at 25-10.
In the fourth set, the Blue Jays were quick to start as they ran to a 5-1 lead following a kill from
Georgianna Kahley sandwiched between two Miller kills. Alvernia then picked up a point as Etown added two more before the Golden Wolves came within one at 7-6. The Blue Jays would then gain major momentum as they surged to a 16-6 lead after nine consecutive points. Alvernia was able to pick up a few more points but couldn't come back as Elizabethtown led by ten at 22-11. Krinock and Kahley pitched in two kills apiece to be three away from winning the match. The Golden Wolves slipped in three more final points before Etown took the final two following a kill from Kahley.
Miller and Krincok each recorded a double double. Miller totaled 13 kills and 19 digs while Krinock tallied 11 kills and ten digs. Hepler added 16 digs and Bitner added 11 assists.
The Blue Jays will be back home this Saturday, September 17th as they host Hood and Marywood in a tri-match starting at 11 AM.
