ANNVILLE, Pa. -- It was a tough start to the season for the Elizabethtown College field hockey team. The Blue Jays were shut out 2-0 at Lebanon Valley on Thursday in the season opener for both teams.
Lebanon Valley (1-0) outshot the Jays 11-0 in the first half, but goalie
Rachel Murphy was able to keep the Dutchmen off the board, not allowing a goal through the first 30 minutes.
LVC did break through in the third quarter to go ahead 1-0 on Rebecca Lane's goal.
Amelia Taube made it 2-0 in the fourth quarter as they held Elizabethtown (1-0) without a goal to get the shutout victory.
Murphy stopped 13 shots for Etown while Kayleigh Kmet saved both shots she faced.
Elizabethtown will travel to Hood on Saturday, September 3.
