Blue Jays Fall in Rain Shortened Affair

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - In the final game of the regular season for the Elizabethtown College baseball team, the Blue Jays fell to Moravian, 6-1, Sunday afternoon at Kevin Scott Boyd Stadium.

With the loss, Etown finishes the regular season 19-20 overall and 11-7 in the Landmark, while the Greyhounds improve to 22-17 on the season and 8-9 in the league play.

Graduate student Andrew Fisher and senior Joey Thomas each finished with the only hit for the Blue Jays, while senior Tyler McGonigle tallied Etown's lone scored run. Junior Ben Watson finished with an RBI.

Moravian was paced by sophomore Matt Madigan once again paced the Greyhounds' offense, going 2-4 with an RBI and three runs scored.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the first, the Blue Jays quickly tied the game. After reaching on a walk to start the inning, McGonigle advanced to second via a wild pitch. Fisher then moved McGonigle to third with a wilf pitch before Watson sent a sacrifice fly to right feld to score the run and square things at one.

Moravian however went on to score five unanswered runs before the game was called in the bottom of the sixth due to rain, 6-1.

Sophomore Johnathan Travisano (1-0) took the loss, allowing for earned runs on three hits and striking out two.

Sophomore David Ciaccio (3-2) threw a gem in the shortened game, allowing one earned run on two hits and struck out seven.

Elizabethtown await to find out its seeding for the upcoming Landmark Conference Tournament. The double-elimination championship series will take place at Scranton starting Friday, March 13 through Sunday, March 15.
